The Green House project is currently at stage 1. Premise: Household energy consumption in the UK accounts for about a third of total CO2 emissions, or about 45% in London. This is also indicative of energy use patterns northern Europe, though the UK tends to be less efficient. Usage needs to reduce dramatically to impact global warming and to hit national and international CO2 emissions targets. Instead, with the effect of climate change triggering the advent of household air conditioning in northern Europe, household energy consumption is set to increase. Various initiatives are in place, often legislation-led and primarily focussed on the 'fuel-poor' market sector (those with the greatest need for low fuel bills, but the least ability to pay for efficiency improvements). IOGI proposes a set of design-led developments, focussed on the able-to-pay market, with the objective of providing comfort, low cost and simplicity for users, while enabling a step-change improvement in energy efficiency. Market demand for quality systems and products in this sector is set to rocket. Funding is available from various sources to help kick-start developments. Implementation: IOGI has generated a first set of concepts and is currently at stage 1 of development - This requires concept testing against market data and refinement through prototyping and brainstorming, before feeding into stage 2. IOGI is currently assembling a team including some of the UK's leading designers and engineers to participate in the project. In particular, the team is seeking air-conditioner technology and expertise; and manufacturers to work with us, preferably with R&D facilities in the UK. Funding proposals are in development.
